So, never actually used the sprinkler system but DID open

So, never actually used the sprinkler system but DID open the valve to it. Does it need to be serviced for winter? Can't see why it would need to be but I am sure no expert. Edit: Just saw an older post which asked the same question. One responder said "no" and another essentially said "why risk not doing it?"
